RICS Books : JCT 05 Revision 2 Contracts

Launched in May 2009, the JCT Contract Revision 2 now incorporates a sustainability provision which is one of the biggest changes ever made, and follows JCT’s consultation and provisions building on OGC’s Achieving Excellence Criteria. JCT has also taken the opportunity to modify aspects of the payment provisions as part of this new Revision 2.

Contracts that have currently been updated or due to be updated in the coming months are the Standard Building Contract, Design and Build Contract, Intermediate Building Contract and Minor Works Building Contract families.

The new provisions have been developed following extensive industry consultation last year and the publication of its sustainability guidance Building a sustainable future together earlier this year. They specify a range of contractual provisions that could be selected, including value engineering to encourage design efficiency; requirements to reduce, reuse and recycle; limiting waste; saving energy and water; reducing emissions, and using sustainable materials and products.
